I have gone back to indoor cycling again after a hiatus of 6 months. The reasons for this long pause are various and personal, so I don't want to extend this post and bore you to death with it.
I do find the human body a fascinating machine. A case in which none of the estimated 8 Billion machines are exactly the same, but they do behave based on certain principles and if you put the time and effort, you do get some result, albeit the result is also likely to be different from machine to machine.
I was at the stage in which riding the 15 Km uphill (estimated rate of incline about 10%) on the heaviest bike gear was taking be around 29 min with a few below that and best result ever being 28m 15s just before I stopped. Going back into it 6 months later took over 36 min to complete the same exercise, keeping a constant and watchful eye on my heart rate with the aim of not going over 160 bpm too often.
As you can see in the graph below (yeah... I love Excel) today was the 1st time I managed to do it under 32 min in this new phase and with relative ease (average HR of 146 bpm).
Good results help with motivation and reinforce discipline.
Have a nice weekend you all... 🥰

Today marks my 1st bike ride of the year (outside). I was outside for a few minutes and the sun was shining and I didn't even have a jacket on, so I put on a light jacket, got onto my bike and started to ride. Pretty soon I discovered (again) that looks can be quite deceiving. The cold wind hitting my body was bloody cold and, as I left without my cycling gloves, my hands started to freeze to the point it hurt... 🥶
Yet, I completed the intended ride around town, but it's good to be back to a nice warm house

Do you cycle in an "old" city / town?
London is nearly 2,000 years old. Some roads still bear the marks of times past, like this iron bar coming out of the curb on Thames Street, near Greenwich Park. These were originally 'wheel stops' to prevent carriages rolling backwards down the hill.
Now imagine you're cycling close to the curb and under pressure by other motor-vehicles passing you close by... and then you hit of these... not fun, huh? 😕
You will also find similar structures in other old English cities and towns like Windsor, for example.
Is there anything like these in the places you live? What other "ancient" obstacles you need to be careful with in the places you cycle?

In 2016 I wrote an article about listening to music while cycling. In the article I presented bone conducting headphones as the best option for cyclists. I have been using them while cycling for nearly a decade now and I never go out on a bike without them, even in the rare occasions I want to cycle in silence.
In 2024 do you guys cycle listening to music?
Do you also use bone conduction headphone as the main option while cycling?

I recorded this 6 years ago in 2018 as EyeCycled.com was about to turn 3 years old. I was unemployed at the time and was considering stop paying the domain and hosting costs for the Blog. The video had a limited sucess as a few people did join my Patreon page and started sponsoring me and I am very grateful to them.
Not long after I recorded this video I found a job and instead of little money and a lot of time the reality became little money and little time 😆.
Anyway, EyeCycled.com is still there. Not much has happened over the last few years, I know, but as long as I am able to keep it up I will.
